High School & College Programs

High test anxiety affects abouy 18% of students, and another 18% are in the moderately-high range. In addition to the inner agony, highly anxious students score about a half letter grade below their low-anxiety peers. 

Our  program has produced an average half a letter grade test gains among college students in four separate studies, and more modest quarter letter grade gains among younger students.  Something close to the half letter grade might be expected for high school students.

Recorded administration

The protocol is presented from a recordiing, which conserves staff time and enables a single counselor to treat whole classes of anxious students in just a few hours.  The recording presents the technical features of the training, while the counselor is free to relate to the students, answer questions, and encourage their participation.

Each student who receives a training CD can do much of the practice at home, minimizing staff hours required.

Steps 

• Select a small group of students for your first program.
  
  
• Screen your selected students with the Westside scale (download Scale).  Include students who score 3.0 or higher.
  
  
• Attain one or more Training CD's or Downloads.
  
  
• Meet with the highly anxious students, explain the program, and present the Training to the students.
  
  
• Encourage students to review the CD at least twice.  If possible, provide a CD or a download for each anxious student to use to practice at home.
