Our automated test-anxiety control program may promote retention among highly test-anxious students as much as anything that a school system can reasonably offer.

Retain Highly Stressed Students

Along with financial considerations and "not fitting in," the stress of challenging courses, frequent tests, and boatloads of homework is a principal contributor to poor performance and leaving college.

The test-anxiety control training has produced an average 12+ percentile test gain (a half a letter grade gain) with 40 college students in three controlled studies (research).

The 12+ percentile test gain is enough to lift many of the marginal students into the passing range.  In addition, lower anxiety makes the school experience less stressful and more pleasant, encouraging students to stay.

Automated Training

The anxiety control training program requires only an hour or so to orient your coordinator, and then a few hours to administer the program.

The recorded feature supplies the tedious and repetitious aspects of the treatment and frees school counselors to relate to the students.  The school counselor thus provides the human relationship and the recorded CD does the job of a carefully programmed robot. Automated administration enables a single counselor to arrange treatment for what seems to be a limitless number of test-anxious students.

One size really does fit all.  The same recorded protocol can be administered across students with high, medium, or low anxiety responses to any of the particular testing scenes.  However much anxiety the students experience, the stretch-release sequences curtail the anxiety and prepare students for the next scene.

Easy to administer

The student retention program is especially easy to administer.
  • Screen "at-risk" students with the Westside scale (download Scale).

  • Purchase one or more Training CDs.

  • Meet with the highly anxious students individually or in a group. Explain the program, and present the CD Training to the students.

  • So far as finances can be arranged, each student should receive a training CD to use for further practice at home.  Encourage students to review the CD at least twice.

  • Assess benefits.
